Using an SSL with Your WordPress Admin Control Panel

You need an SSL certificate installed and set up on your shared hosting account before proceeding with the WordPress® installation. If you don't have an SSL, we can help. For more information, click here.

Note: If you are using Managed WordPress, we automatically handle this for you.

To enable WordPress and SSL, you need to edit your wp-config.php file. You can download this file from your account over FTP or use the FTP file manager in your account. For more information see .

To Use an SSL with Your WordPress Admin Control Panel

  1. Using your hosting account's editor, open your WordPress installation's wp-config.php file.
  2. Select your wp-config.php file, and then click Edit.
  3. Find the following line:
    /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */
  4. Direct above it, type these two lines:
    define('FORCE_SSL_ADMIN', true);
    define('FORCE_SSL_LOGIN', true);

So, after you're done editing, your wp-config.php file should look like this:

define('FORCE_SSL_ADMIN', true);
define('FORCE_SSL_LOGIN', true);
/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

Now when you log in to your admin page, you should see https in your browser's address bar.
